BNV : নবাটের পুত্র যারবিয়াম তখনও মিশরে লুকিয়ে ছিল| যখন সে শলোমনের মৃত্যু সংবাদ পেল, তার জন্মভূমি ইফ্রয়িমে পার্বত্য অঞ্চলের সেরেদতে ফিরে এল|এদিকে রাজা শলোমনের মৃত্যুর পর তাঁকে তাঁর পূর্বপুরুষদের সঙ্গে সমাধিস্থ করা হলে নতুন রাজা হলেন তার পুত্র রহবিয়াম|
KJV : And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for all Israel were come to Shechem to make him king.
YLT : And Rehoboam goeth to Shechem, for to Shechem hath all Israel come to make him king.

ERVEN : Jeroboam son of Nebat was still in Egypt where he had run away from Solomon. When he heard about Solomon's death, he returned to his city, Zeredah, in the hills of Ephraim. Rehoboam and all of the Israelites went to Shechem to make him the king. The people said to Rehoboam,

KJV : And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was yet in Egypt, heard [of it,] (for he was fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt;)
YLT : And it cometh to pass, at Jeroboam son of Nebat`s hearing (and he [is] yet in Egypt where he hath fled from the presence of Solomon the king, and Jeroboam dwelleth in Egypt),
RV : And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it, (for he was yet in Egypt, wither he had fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt,

ESV : And as soon as Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for he was still in Egypt, where he had fled from King Solomon), then Jeroboam returned from Egypt.

BNV : ইস্রায়েলের সমস্ত বাসিন্দা রহবিয়ামকে রাজপদে অধিষ্ঠিত করতে শিখিমে গিয়েছিল| কারণ রহবিয়াম তখন সেখানেই ছিল| সকলে রহবিয়ামকে বলল,
KJV : That they sent and called him. And Jeroboam and all the congregation of Israel came, and spake unto Rehoboam, saying,

BNV : “আপনার পিতা আমাদের খাটিযে খাটিযে জীবন দুর্বিসহ করে তুলেছিলেন| আপনি দয়া করে আমাদের কাজের বোঝা একটু হাল্কা করে দিলেই আমরা আপনার হয়ে কাজ করব|”
KJV : Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.
YLT : `Thy father made hard our yoke, and thou, now, make light [some] of the hard service of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we serve thee.`
RV : Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.
RSV : "Your father made our yoke heavy. Now therefore lighten the hard service of your father and his heavy yoke upon us, and we will serve you."

BNV : রহবিয়াম তাদের উত্তর দিলেন, “তোমরা তিনদিন পরে আমার কাছে এস| তখন আমি আমার সিদ্ধান্ত তোমাদের জানাব|” একথা শুনে সবাই ফিরে গেল|
KJV : And he said unto them, Depart yet [for] three days, then come again to me. And the people departed.
YLT : And he saith unto them, `Go -- yet three days, and come back unto me;` and the people go.
RV : And he said unto them, Depart yet for three days, then come again to me. And the people departed.
RSV : He said to them, "Depart for three days, then come again to me." So the people went away.

ERVEN : Rehoboam answered, "Come back to me in three days, and I will answer you." So the people left.

BNV : শলোমনের য়ে সমস্ত প্রবীণ পরামর্শদাতা তখনও জীবিত ছিলেন, রাজা রহবিয়াম তাদের তাঁর কর্তব্য কর্ম সম্পর্কে প্রশ্ন করলেন, “আমার এক্ষেত্রে কি করা উচিত্‌? আমি এদের কি বলব?
KJV : And king Rehoboam consulted with the old men, that stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, and said, How do ye advise that I may answer this people?
YLT : And king Rehoboam consulteth with the elders who have been standing in the presence of Solomon his father, in his being alive, saying, `How are ye counselling to answer this people?`
RV : And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?
RSV : Then King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he was yet alive, saying, "How do you advise me to answer this people?"

ERVEN : There were some older men who had helped Solomon make decisions when he was alive. So King Rehoboam asked these men what he should do. He said, "How do you think I should answer the people?"

BNV : প্রবীণরা তাঁকে বললেন, “তুমি যদি আজ ওদের কাছে দাসের মতো হও, ওরা সত্যি তোমার সেবা করবে| তুমি যদি ওদের সঙ্গে দয়াপরবশ হয়ে কথা বলো, তাহলে ওরা চির দিনই তোমার হয়ে কাজ করবে|”
KJV : And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.
YLT : And they speak unto him, saying, `If, to-day, thou art servant to this people, and hast served them, and answered them, and spoken unto them good words, then they have been to thee servants all the days.`
RV : And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.
RSV : And they said to him, "If you will be a servant to this people today and serve them, and speak good words to them when you answer them, then they will be your servants for ever."

ERVEN : They answered, "If you are like a servant to them today, they will sincerely serve you. If you speak kindly to them, they will always work for you."

BNV : কিন্তু রহবিয়াম এই পরামর্শে কর্ণপাত করলো না| তিনি তাঁর বন্ধু-বান্ধবদের সঙ্গে পরামর্শ করলেন|
KJV : But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, [and] which stood before him:
YLT : And he forsaketh the counsel of the elders which they counselled him, and consulteth with the lads who have grown up with him, who are standing before him;
RV : But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men that were grown up with him, that stood before him.

ERVEN : But Rehoboam did not listen to the advice from the older men. He asked the young men who were his friends.

BNV : সে তাদের বলল, “লোকরা বলছে, ‘আপনার পিতা যা কাজ দিতেন তার চেয়েও আমাদের হাল্কা কাজ দিন|’ কি করা যায় বলো তো? আমি এখন ওদের কি বলি?”
KJV : And he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we may answer this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke which thy father did put upon us lighter?
YLT : and he saith unto them, `What are ye counselling, and we answer this people, who have spoken unto me, saying, Lighten [somewhat] of the yoke that thy father put upon us?`
RV : And he said unto them, What counsel give ye, that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke that thy father did put upon us lighter?
RSV : And he said to them, "What do you advise that we answer this people who have said to me, `Lighten the yoke that your father put upon us'?"

ERVEN : Rehoboam asked them, "The people said, 'Give us easier work than your father gave us.' How do you think I should answer them? What should I tell them?"

BNV : রাজার বন্ধুরা রহবিয়ামকে বলল, “শোন কথা! ওরা নাকি বলছে তোমার পিতা ওদের বেশী খাটাতেন| তুমি কেবল মাত্র ওদের ডেকে বলে দাও, ‘দেখ হে, আমার কড়ে আঙ্গুল আমার পিতার পুরো দেহের চেয়েও শক্তিশালী|
KJV : And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou speak unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou [it] lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little [finger] shall be thicker than my father’s loins.
YLT : And they speak unto him -- the lads who had grown up with him -- saying, `Thus dost thou say to this people who have spoken unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, and thou, make [it] light upon us; thus dost thou speak unto them, My little [finger] is thicker than the loins of my father;
RV : And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou say unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou speak unto them, My little finger is thicker than my father-s loins.
RSV : And the young men who had grown up with him said to him, "Thus shall you speak to this people who said to you, `Your father made our yoke heavy, but do you lighten it for us'; thus shall you say to them, `My little finger is thicker than my father's loins.
ASV : And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou say unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou speak unto them, My little finger is thicker than my fathers loins.
ESV : And the young men who had grown up with him said to him, "Thus shall you speak to this people who said to you, 'Your father made our yoke heavy, but you lighten it for us,' thus shall you say to them, 'My little finger is thicker than my father's thighs.
ERVEN : Then the young men who grew up with him answered, "Those people came to you and said, 'Your father forced us to work very hard. Now make our work easier.' So you should tell them, 'My little finger is stronger than my father's whole body.

BNV : আমার পিতার জন্য তোমরা য়ে কাজ করেছ তার চেয়েও অনেক কঠিন কাজ আমি তোমাদের দিয়ে করাব| কাজ আদায করার জন্য আমার পিতা তোমাদের শুধু চাবকাতেন, আমি ধারালো লোহা বসানো চাবুক দিয়ে চাবকাবো|”‘
KJV : And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father hath chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
YLT : and now, my father laid on you a heavy yoke, and I add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, and I -- I chastise you with scorpions.`
RV : And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

BNV : রহবিয়াম লোকদের তিন দিন পরে আসতে বলেছিলেন তাই ঠিক তিন দিন পরে ইস্রায়েলের লোকরা আবার রহবিয়ামের কাছে ফিরে এল|
KJV : So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me again the third day.
YLT : And they come -- Jeroboam and all the people -- unto Rehoboam, on the third day, as the king had spoken, saying, `Come back unto me on the third day.`
RV : So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king bade, saying, Come to me again the third day.

BNV : রহবিয়াম তখন প্রবীণদের কথা না শুনে
KJV : And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the old men’s counsel that they gave him;
YLT : And the king answereth the people sharply, and forsaketh the counsel of the elders which they counselled him,
RV : And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him;
RSV : And the king answered the people harshly, and forsaking the counsel which the old men had given him,

ERVEN : King Rehoboam did not listen to the advice from the older men, and he was rude to the people.

BNV : তার বন্ধু-বান্ধবদের পরামর্শ অনুযায়ীবললেন, “আমার পিতা তোমাদের জোর করে বেশি খাটিযেছিল বলছো, এখন আমি আরো বেশী খাটাবো| আমার পিতা তোমাদের শুধু চাবকেছেন, আমি লোহা বসানো চাবুক দিয়ে চাবকাবো|”
KJV : And spake to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke: my father [also] chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

BNV : অর্থাত্‌ রাজা লোকদের আবেদনে সাড়া দিলেন না| প্রভুর অভিপ্রায়েই এই ঘটনা ঘটল| প্রভু নবাটের পুত্র যারবিয়ামের কাছে তাঁর দেওয়া প্রতিশ্রুতি রাখার জন্যই এই ঘটনা ঘটালেন| শীলোনীয ভাববাদী অহিযের মাধ্যমে প্রভু যারবিয়ামের কাছে প্রতিশ্রুতিবদ্ধ হয়েছিলেন|
KJV : Wherefore the king hearkened not unto the people; for the cause was from the LORD, that he might perform his saying, which the LORD spake by Ahijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
YLT : and the king hearkened not unto the people, for the revolution was from Jehovah, in order to establish His word that Jehovah spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam son of Nebat.
RV : So the king hearkened not unto the people; for it was a thing brought about of the LORD, that he might establish his word, which the LORD spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
RSV : So the king did not hearken to the people; for it was a turn of affairs brought about by the LORD that he might fulfil his word, which the LORD spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
ASV : So the king hearkened not unto the people; for it was a thing brought about of Jehovah, that he might establish his word, which Jehovah spake by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
ESV : So the king did not listen to the people, for it was a turn of affairs brought about by the LORD that he might fulfill his word, which the LORD spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
ERVEN : So the king did not do what the people wanted. The Lord caused this to happen. He did this in order to keep the promise he made to Jeroboam son of Nebat when he sent the prophet Ahijah from Shiloh to speak to him.

BNV : ইস্রায়েলের সমস্ত লোক দেখল নতুন রাজা তাদের আবেদনে কর্ণপাত পর্য়ন্ত করল না| তখন তারা রাজাকে এসে বলল, “আমরা কি দায়ূদের পরিবারভুক্ত? মোটেই না| আমরা কি য়িশযের জমির কোনো ভাগ পাই ? না! তাহলে দেশবাসীরা চলো আমরা আমাদের নিজের বাড়িতে ফিরে যাই| দায়ূদের পুত্র তার নিজের লোকদের ওপর রাজত্ব করুক|” একথা বলে ইস্রায়েলের লোকরা য়ে যার বাড়িতে ফিরে গেল|
KJV : So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither [have we] inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents.
YLT : And all Israel see that the king hath not hearkened unto them, and the people send the king back word, saying, `What portion have we in David? yea, there is no inheritance in the son of Jesse; to thy tents, O Israel; now see thy house, O David!` and Israel goeth to its tents.

ESV : And when all Israel saw that the king did not listen to them, the people answered the king, "What portion do we have in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, O Israel! Look now to your own house, David." So Israel went to their tents.
ERVEN : The Israelites saw that the new king refused to listen to them, so they said to him, "We are not part of David's family are we? We don't get any of Jesse's land do we? So people of Israel, let's go home and let David's son rule his own people!" So the Israelites went home.

BNV : ইস্রায়েলের য়ে সমস্ত লোক যিহূদার শহরগুলিতে থাকত রহবিয়াম শুধুমাত্র তাদের ওপর রাজত্ব করেছিলেন|
KJV : But [as for] the children of Israel which dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
YLT : As to the sons of Israel, those dwelling in the cities of Judah -- over them reign doth Rehoboam.
RV : But as for the children of Israel which dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.

BNV : অদোরাম নামে এক জন লোক কর্মচারীদের তত্ত্বাবধান করত| রাজা তাকে ডেকে পাঠিয়ে লোকদের সঙ্গে কথা বলতে বললেন| কিন্তু ইস্রায়েলের লোকরা পাথর ছুঁড়ে তাকে মেরে ফেলল| রহবিয়াম তখন কোন মতে তাঁর রথে চড়ে জেরুশালেমে পালিয়ে গেলেন|
KJV : Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who [was] over the tribute; and all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. Therefore king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
YLT : And king Rehoboam sendeth Adoram who [is] over the tribute, and all Israel cast at him stones, and he dieth; and king Rehoboam hath strengthened himself to go up into a chariot to flee to Jerusalem;
RV : Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the levy; and all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. And king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
RSV : Then King Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was taskmaster over the forced labor, and all Israel stoned him to death with stones. And King Rehoboam made haste to mount his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
ASV : Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the men subject to taskwork; and all Israel stoned him to death with stones. And king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
ESV : Then King Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was taskmaster over the forced labor, and all Israel stoned him to death with stones. And King Rehoboam hurried to mount his chariot to flee to Jerusalem.
ERVEN : A man named Adoniram was one of the men who directed the workers. King Rehoboam sent Adoniram to talk to the people, but the Israelites threw stones at him until he died. King Rehoboam ran to his chariot and escaped to Jerusalem.

BNV : অতএব ইস্রায়েলের লোকরা দায়ূদের পরিবারের বিরুদ্ধে বিদ্রোহ করল এবং এখনও পর্য়ন্ত তারা দায়ূদ পরিবার বিরোধী|
KJV : So Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.
YLT : and Israel transgresseth against the house of David unto this day.
RV : So Israel rebelled against the house of David, unto this day.
RSV : So Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David to this day.

ERVEN : Rehoboam went back to Jerusalem and gathered together an army of 180,000 men from the families of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin. Rehoboam wanted to go fight against the Israelites and take back his kingdom.

KJV : Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: return every man to his house; for this thing is from me. They hearkened therefore to the word of the LORD, and returned to depart, according to the word of the LORD.

ERVEN : Then King Jeroboam started a new festival that was like the festival in Judah, but it was on the 15 day of the eighth month. At this time the king offered sacrifices on the altar at Bethel. He and the priests he chose offered the sacrifices to the calves that he had set up at the high places he had made.

BNV : অর্থাত্‌ রাজা যারবিয়াম তার সুবিধা মতো ইস্রায়েলীয়দের জন্য উত্সবের সময় বেছে নিয়েছিল| অষ্টম মাসের 15 দিনের মাথায় ঐ ছুটির দিনটিতে বৈথেল শহরে তার বানানো বেদীতে বলিদান ছাড়াও ধূপধূনো দেওয়া হতো|
